To Your Athletic Success
"Football is played with the head. Your legs are just tools" Andrea Pirlo, Italian retired professional footballer and played for the Italy national team.
Sports requires the use of the mind to be successful because everything we do starts where? In the mind. This is why Christine Morris Peak Performance Coach provides a unique service that works with individual sportsmen and women and clubs/teams to unleash their talents which enables them to achieve their goals faster than they thought possible... using their mind.
This unique service has helped football clubs who have been in the relegation zone avoid relegation, athletes who have been considered too old go onto achieve their goals which had eluded them for years e.g. win gold medals, strikers go onto significantly increase the number of goals they score which got them into their countries national team or once in the national team they go from not scoring goals to significantly increasing the number of goals they score, get contracts, win competitions, etc.
Below are some of the areas that are covered for improvement in getting to peak performance and some of the results achieved with sportsmen and women and clubs/teams. The results were achieved at a faster pace than they thought was possible which meant they didn't have to wait years to achieve their goals.
"Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance
It is helping them learn rather than teaching."
Sir John Whitmore
Get your desired results by achieving peak performance...
Results will be seen from the very first session you have and we build on each session to speed up the achievement of your goals for individuals and teams.
The video below shows one of the ways the Peak Performance Coaching Sessions are done internationally with Leon Bailey when he was 15 years old.
With social distancing now required because of Covid-19 this is an ideal way to work with athletes even when they are a member of a team as the sessions are done on an individual basis to get to the root of what each athlete requires to improve their individual performance. This approach gives fast improvements, above expectations to the entire team's performance.

Impressive Resume from Dr. Paul Wright Sports Medicine Specialist
Christine Morris, the coach interviewed on radio, has a very impressive resume of success stories while working with Jamaicans in several different sports. In football, from schoolboy teams to working with Andrew Edwards, head coach of Jamaica's under-17 team; water polo, cricket, boxing, track and field, and the list goes on. She has even worked with our International sensation Leon Bailey, who had contact via video with the athlete in Belgium and peak performance coach in Jamaica. When the exploits of our Sunshine Girls, who in world rankings are "sometimes third, most times fourth," are compared with the obvious athletic superiority of our ladies, it is my postulate that mental tenacity could be the missing ingredient in the potpourri of various things that could ensure a marked improvement in athletic performances from netball to bobsled.
Mental preparation and reliance on a peak performance coach, should be mandatory when the selection for ANY national team is contemplated.

Jamaica National Football Team
Jermain Anderson's Peak Performance Coaching/Mental Preparation Coaching was started in February of the 2011- 2012 season and continued for the 2012-2013 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season which allowed him to be calm, disciplined and score more goals (14 goals in 2011-2012 season and 21 goals in 2012-2013 season), being the top goal scorer for both seasons winning the golden boot, won more awards and got back into the Jamaica National Senior Team.
Because of Jermain Anderson's improvements in his behaviour and game which among other things resulted in him scoring more goals to become the leading goal scorer his fans were disappointed that he was left out of the Jamaica National Senior Men's Team and protested. See link below

When Jermain Anderson got back into the Jamaica Senior Men's Team he was bought on in the last few minutes of the game and scored a goal for Jamaica v Costa Rica to give Jamaica a life line at qualifying for Brazil 2014 World Cup Final and became a hero getting lots of interviews from different media and attended many functions.

He even got the programme Football GPS to himself. He talks about working with me at minute 34:15 and stated how the coaching helped him be calm and he feels what I do is working. Link to programme below.

"During the U20 Male preparations for the Fifa U20 World Cup 2009 in Egypt. Christine Morris had a number of training sessions with key players from the squad. The sessions were conducted prior to the team’s departure for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U20 Championship in the St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
The sessions were held with individual players- going through a number of visualization and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) activities. Each player I spoke with said immediately they were able to acknowledge their technical impotence and how to make the necessary corrections to the faults identified.
The players Mrs. Morris had the sessions with were more purposeful in training and they all indicated that- though knowing that they wanted to win; mentally they felt more relaxed as they were now in a common place with their subconscious.
Interestingly when we were in St. Vincent; to win the Championship we had to beat the host team in order to win-the host needing only a draw. The stadium was filled to capacity and most if not all the spectators were cheering for the St. Vincent team. The players said all they did was to visualize that all the fans were supporting Jamaica- the game ended in a two nil victory for Jamaica.
I know the players benefited from the sessions with Mrs. Morris as the impact was not on their football talent only but applicable to their everyday life as well."

On 6th March 2015, I contacted Under 17 Head Coach Andrew Edwards and gave him some exercises to do with the team via Facebook to help boost the teams confidence to win matches as I read in the media 9 players were injured in an elevator accident. The exercises given were used with the team and they went on to beat Trinidad and Tabago 5 - 0 and beat the USA who they normally find difficult to beat 1- 0.

Head Coach Andrew Edwards mentioned on the programme Eye on Sports on 12th March 2015 that I worked with him via Facebook which helped the team.
The head coaches and assistant coaches of any team can't do everything that is required for players to perform well which is why this unique service is recommended because it gets to the root cause as to why players are not performing as their ability suggests and some of the times it isn't football related.
I also coached Head Coach Andrew Edwards from March 2016 to July 2016 along with some of the U-17 players. During that period 5 of the strikers weren't scoring goals so a few days before they traveled to the 2016 U-17 CFU Championship I did 30 minutes one-on-one coaching sessions with them.
Edwards' only concern going into the tournament is the form of his strikers.
"The main area of concern is goal scoring. We have been scoring goals, but we have not been getting goals from our front-line players," he observed. Source: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/sports/20160711/u17-boyz-will-not-miss-out-edwards
All the strikers I coached and played in the tournament scored goals, with Raewin Senior selected to the tournament's all-star team having scored 4 goals. The top goal scorer of the tournament had 5 goals.

"Since Cory Burke started life coaching/peak performance coaching sessions with Christine Morris in March 2014 I see a far, far different approach from him on the field.
Burke is now the second leading goal scorer in the 2014-2015 Red Stripe Premier League Season on 10 goals, 3 goals behind the leader in the first round of the season. He also assists goal scoring and has got man of the match for scoring 2 goals and 1 assist.
The media is also commenting on the difference they have seen in Burke with one saying Burke is Rivoli’s new sensation.
I am pleased with the results produced from the coaching sessions Burke has done with Mrs. Morris."

“The coaching sessions with Christine Morris has helped me a lot because I am doing almost everything perfect so far and I hope to continue doing the right things. The coaching has helped me stay focused and score more goals”
Cory Burke, Forward, Rivoli United Football Club
Burke's performance for Rivoli United after he took part in peak performance/mental preparation coaching sparked interest abroad and on February 17, 2016 he joined the newly formed Bethlehem Steel FC on a year-long loan. After registering 4 goals from 20 appearances during Bethlehem Steel FC's 2016 season, Burke's loan deal was made permanent by official transfer in November 2016.
Philadelphia Union
After spending two seasons with Philadelphia Union's USL affiliate in Bethlehem, Burke was officially signed to the MLS team on 21 December 2017. Burke made his debut for the Union on March 3, 2018 as a substitute in the home opener against New England Revolution, registering an assist on the Union's second goal. Burke began to establish himself as a regular starter, culminating in being the joint top scorer on the season (along side Fafa Picault) with 10 goals.
In 2016, Burke made his Jamaica National senior team debut versus Haiti and scored his first international goal against Guyana.

"I am Kenroy Howell and during my time working with Mrs. Morris was really a success. I remember when I was stuck on two goals during my 2015/2016 Red Stripe Premier League season, and after working with Mrs. Morris which I highlight that all of our sessions were done over the phone, I bounced back and start scoring again, playing freely and with the confidence that contribute to me scoring a total of ten goals in the season.
Mrs. Morris helped me to find back that scoring touch again. Some of the areas that she helped me improve on was being confident and focused so due to that I can go back on being "me" the person I am known for. The sessions really helped me and what is better than having a striker that is scoring again?"

Kenroy Howell went on to secure a five-month loan agreement to Club Deportivo Dragon in the El Salvador premier football division, (Source: http://jamaica-star.com/article/sports/20160722/waterhouses-howell-heads-el-salvador-loan), which led to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds signing the forward to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2018 season, pending USL and USSF approval.
A paragraph from the Pittsburgh Riverhounds article showing the impact of the mental preparation coaching Kenroy Howell had which led to him getting overseas loan contract with his performance of scoring 10 goals in the season I worked with him, while he scored a total of five goals during his previous two seasons.
A native of Manchester, Jamaica, Howell started his professional career with Waterhouse in 2013-14. The forward starred for the club over three seasons, notching 15 goals in total, including a career-high 10 in 2015-16.
His career year caught the attention of C.D. Dragón of the Primera División in El Salvador, as he was sent to the club on loan this past July for the remainder of 2016. At Dragón, Howell, who made 16 appearances in total for the club, most notably netted his first goal in a close 2-1 defeat against the Portland Timbers at the CONCACAF Champions League in August.

It helps me to know what to do and don’t in the split of a second get frightened when the ball comes to me. I stay relaxed and composed in the finishing area. "Since working with Mrs. Christine Morris my game play and game style has improved. Mrs. Morris always has sessions with me before I have a match because she wants me to be mentally and physically ready for the match.
I always wonder how she does what she does as sometimes I think this won't work but in the end it does.
Mrs. Morris has helped me in a lot of ways. She helped me to read the game quicker than I use to, she helped me to keep cool while under pressure, she taught me how to lead my team not only on the football pitch but off the pitch.
Working with Mrs. Morris is always a plus for me because the sessions that she always does really helps, it makes me become a player I always dream about.
Mrs. Morris is very dedicated and committed. If she says we have a session at 8am she will call you exactly 8am. I want to say a big thank you to Mrs. Morris if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be perfect at a lot of things I do on the field."

Knyle Taylor (12 years old)
By: Odane Taylor (Father)
I first heard about Mrs Morris through Andrew Edwards, National U17 Football Coach. I must admit, I had my doubts about the effectiveness of mental coaching. After seeing a video on the internet with Leon Bailey in his earlier years doing a Skype session with Mrs Morris I started to become a little more intrigued.
My son who has dreams of becoming a professional football player was about to sit his GSAT exams in a couple of weeks and we decided to do any and everything we could to give him the best chances of achieving his highest potential. Therefore, we enrolled him into Mrs Morris’ Peak Performance program.
One of the most interesting things about the experience was that when we asked Mrs Morris how soon we would begin to see results, her response was “immediately”… I thought to myself “yeah, right”.
To my surprise, my son achieved one of many perfect scores in his mock GSAT exams leading up to the exams, after his first session with Mrs Morris. He had always been a top student, however would miss the perfect score with one or two wrong answers from time to time. Not only did his GSAT grades improve, his performances on the football field improved as well.
He had issues with scoring goals, after seeing Mrs Morris, scoring goals during training games and tournaments became a regular occurrence. Even his coaches commented on his new attitude and confidence.
I would recommend this program to any athlete or any individual who wants to improve in any area of their life.

I believe that your thirty (30) minute interaction was indeed valuable and instructive. Your technique in allowing visualization of particular roles was relevant and useful, and I am sure that it helped most, if not all, the participants including myself. First to perceive themselves in a positive light and then to visualize themselves in that role. Brilliant!! We look forward to similar sessions as these can only assist us to improve our individual and collective performance."

"I have been playing Water Polo with the Jamaica National Team since the age of 17. I have always had a deep love for the game, but have always had bittersweet results. Nervousness in high pressure situations almost always resulted in failure or disappointment as I was unable to deliver or perform well under these circumstances. I had always trained hard and seldom missed practices so I knew that the problem was not physical or technical. Nevertheless, I knew that it was a problem that urgently needed to be addressed if I wanted to continue playing my favorite sport or representing Jamaica.
I am currently 31 years old, and was recently selected to represent Jamaica at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) that were hosted here in Jamaica. I sought Christine Morris' assistance with regards to solving my problem. The results were amazing and unexpected. In practice games leading up to the competition I was scoring key goals and making solid plays that were contributing to victories instead of bad plays that contributed to losses. I was even more focused not only during games but during practices as well. I was more relaxed in high pressure situations. I was more in control. I did not have the same feeling of anxiety when the pressure was on.
Christine helped me identify some key areas that were causing my failure and made suggestions on how I could minimize or eliminate these factors. The end result is that we ended up winning gold in the competition, and I scored three goals.
I am not saying that we won the competition as a result of my sessions with Christine. I am saying that my personal performance was better as a result of these sessions, allowing me to be a contributing part of our team's success. Nor am I saying that the problems that I faced are completely alleviated. I am saying that my situation has improved significantly, and I will continue to train hard and work with Christine to improve even further.
In retrospect, I now realize more than ever that sport is not only physical. There is a large psychological aspect of sport that tends to be either undernourished or completely ignored. This is a grave mistake. Jamaica has always been a source of great athletes, based solely on the amount of raw talent and potential that exists. If we combine training of the psyche along with training of the body, the results will be phenomenal."

It’s all mental, says KC’s Yashawn Hamilton
Thursday, March 17, 2016 Jamaica Observer
(Please note Yashawn Hamilton isn't my client. I am using the article to show how mental preparation and being mentally strong are important for athletes.)
It’s all about mental strength declared Yashawn Hamilton of Kingston College (KC) after he created an upset to win the Class Two long jump yesterday, the first final of the 2016 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium.
Hamilton leapt to 7.01 metres on his third jump before leaving to participate in the 200 metres heat, which he won in 22.17 seconds to easily qualify for the semi-finals.
He hurriedly returned to the long jump pit, but was not needed as none of his seven competitors had surpassed his best effort.
“It’s just mental. You just have to be mentally strong, and I have the 100m tomorrow,” said a smiling Hamilton.
“So I have to be mentally strong for this and carry a lot of points for my team and ensure that my team wins the champs,” he added.
“The jump wasn’t my best jump. I just went out there and listened to what my coach said. I have a lot of events, so I didn’t get to do the rest of my jumps, so I don’t know what would have happened with the rest of those jumps,” he continued.
Despite having one of the best jumps this season, Hamilton was predicted to finish third behind Joel Morgan of Excelsior High, and his teammate Shacquille Lowe.
“I was looking for about 7.3 metres, but what came I just dealt with it and said that’s it,” he added.
When quizzed if he was surprised with his victory, Hamilton replied: “No, I wasn’t surprised. I know that I was a finalist last year, so I just came out and did my best and ensured that I am on the medal podium.”

Dermontti Dawson's Keys to Success...
Most Important Aspect - Mental Toughness
Former Steelers’ center Dermontti Dawson had one of the most successful careers in the NFL – 13 years with a single team, seven Pro Bowls, one Super Bowl appearance. Looking back, he provides some helpful insights into his personal rules that led to his success.
“Of course, once you make it, that’s the easy part,” Dawson said. “Maintaining and having longevity – that’s the hard part.”
And how do you do that? Although the game of football is very taxing physically, Dawson believes that it all starts with the mind.
“You have to be mentally tough,” Dawson says. “I think the mental aspect of the game is the most important part of it.”
For Dawson, that means a few different things. The mental aspect of the game includes knowing the offense inside and out, which was something he learned from Mike Webster, the Hall of Fame center that preceded him in Pittsburgh. “He probably knew the offense better than the coaches,” Dawson said. “He just reinforced it in his brain until he knew it backwards and forwards. And that’s what I tried to emulate when I took over after Mike as a center.”
To Dawson, mental toughness means knowing the difference between being injured and being hurt. “I was being paid to play,” Dawson said. “I knew if I was injured and I couldn’t do it, I’m compromising the team, because I’m not at 100 percent. Being hurt is totally different. Sometimes you’ve got to play with a little pain.”
“I think that was one of the keys to my success.”
Another key to his success was something he could have borrowed from the ancient Greeks, who said, “Know thyself.” In football terms, know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. “I used to hate running distances,” Dawson explains. “But I knew that I had to have that cardio base.”
“We all like to work on our strengths, so I started working on my weakness, which was distance running.“
Dawson put together a program combining distance running for cardiovascular fitness, with sprint intervals and full on sprints for speed, along with his regular regimen of weight lifting for strength.
“As a professional player, your body takes such a pounding, that you’ve got to keep in shape, you’ve got to keep strong in order to rebound from injuries,” Dawson explains. “You’re not going to go through a whole season without injuries, bumps and bruises.“
The ability to persevere and play through minor injuries was key to his NFL longevity, and to do that required dedication. Asked what one word the defenders that lined up across from him would use to describe him, Dawson answered, “Tenacious.” He never gave up.
“You played hard from whistle to whistle, each play,” Dawson said. “You’re going to lose some of the battles, but my mentality was that I’m going to force my will on my opponent, no matter who I played. He could be bigger, stronger, it didn’t matter.”
Beyond mental toughness, focus, and tenacity, Dawson believes that character is critical to long term success for an athlete, “We have to act and carry ourselves with integrity, on and off the field.”
He believes it is critical to “do the right thing, all the time, no matter where you are.”
“People are always looking. I think you have to hold yourself to a higher standard – act with character, and have character.”
Finally, Dawson recognizes the importance of the relationship between the athletes and the fans. Dawson explains one final rule: “Never turn anybody away, especially a fan.”
“The fans are what make the game. That’s what pays these players. Players that dismiss the fans – that is taboo to me and just not right.”
“I think that is paramount, because that is what builds the game.”

ADVICE FOR ATHLETES
MORALITY CLAUSES: Star athletes beware! by Peter S. Goldson
Before the monumental indiscretions of Tiger Woods were exposed in the press, the golfer was venerated around the world. His prowess and name-recognition had allowed him to be the beneficiary of numerous sponsorship or endorsements contracts which provided for his name, likeness and image to be used by sponsors to advertise various products in exchange for huge sums of money. Tiger was the first sportsman to earn more than US$1B from sponsorship deals and endorsements.
After the scandal broke, many of these sponsors dropped him liked a hot potato because a scandal-plagued sports star was not the image which some sponsors wanted the buying public to associate with their products.
The sponsors were able to terminate these highly lucrative agreements because of the presence among their terms of “morality clauses”. These clauses typically provide that a sponsor is entitled to terminate the sponsorship and endorsement agreement in the event of the athlete’s or celebrity’s inappropriate or immoral speech or conduct.
Morality clauses apparently had their genesis in Hollywood of the 1920’s after the film star Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle was charged with the rape and murder of a young starlet and was tried three times without a conviction. The Hollywood studios thereafter developed the practice of including morality clauses in the contracts of their stars so as to be able to unravel contractual arrangements with a celebrity whose reputation had become tarnished or sullied.
When morality clauses were originally used, they tended to be quite specific in their terms in that the contract termination would only be triggered by a specific act, such as the celebrity’s arrest or conviction of a crime. The celebrity at least had the assurance of his employment contract or endorsement deal not being disturbed until his or her bad conduct was sufficient to move law enforcement agencies or was proven in a court of law.
However, as the use of morality clauses has become more common and, perhaps, the sponsors’ discernment of the buying public’s perceptions and behaviour became more sophisticated, sponsors have tended to insist on morality clauses being less specific, more general, and more dependent on the sponsor’s subjective assessment of the facts.
A typical morality clause reads as follows[1]:
“Without prejudice to any other right or remedy SPONSOR may have under this contract or otherwise, SPONSOR many terminate this Contract immediately upon giving written notice to ATHLETE, on or at any time after the happening or occurrence of any of the following events or circumstances:
(i) the commercial value of the ATHLETE Endorsement and related services is in the reasonable opinion of SPONSOR substantially impaired by ATHLETE’s statements, behaviour or conduct which has unquestionably brought ATHLETE’s character into disrepute;
(ii) ATHLETE acts in a manner that, in the reasonable opinion of SPONSOR, shocks or offends the community or which manifests contempt or disregard for diversity, public morals or decency;
(iii) (without prejudice to the foregoing) ATHLETE is convicted of any criminal offence, or commits a violation of any anti-doping rule (including without limitation testing positive in any doping test) of any national or international sports governing body or anti-doping organisation, or is admitted or recommended for treatment or therapy for addiction to or abuse of drugs or alcohol.”
The danger to an athlete or celebrity of such a broadly drafted and, arguably, imprecise clause is that a sponsor may be tempted to invoke it even if the indiscretion of the athlete or celebrity is insignificant or, worse yet, unsubstantiated. To put it another way, the sponsor alone will be able to determine what kind of behaviour is unacceptable. He could decide, for example, that juvenile antics during the singing of the National Anthem at a medal awards ceremony would suffice to end the endorsement deal, regardless of the public response to or view of the indiscretion. This may be so especially if a sponsor simply wants to terminate what it sees as an undesirable contract.
A celebrity or star athlete should consider the following:
(i) They need to ensure that all contractual provisions are as clear and precise as possible. If they do not understand the provision, they should insist on it being modified;
(ii) They should find out what kinds of activities or behaviour is likely to trigger the morality clause. It would be useful, also, to find out if the clause applies beyond themselves to members of their family.
(iii) They should behave in a way which does not trigger the clause.
Star athletes should also consider the possibility of inclusion of a “reverse” morality clause whereby the celebrity or athlete can obtain release from the contract if the sponsor suffers damage to its reputation which might embarrass or harm the athlete. Without a reverse morality clause, a celebrity or star athlete may be forced to stick with a sponsor relationship with a corporate pariah. Notably, the Houston Astros had to pay US$2.1M to erase ENRON’s name from their ballpark after the energy company collapsed in scandal. With a “reverse” morality clause, they probably would not have had to pay at all
As Jamaica produces more internationally renowned star athletes, the importance of endorsement or sponsorship agreements (and the morality clauses negotiated in them) will take on increased significance. Star athletes need to be conscious of how these clauses can hurt them or protect them.

(i) the commercial value of the ATHLETE Endorsement and related services is in the reasonable opinion of SPONSOR substantially impaired by ATHLETE’s statements, behaviour or conduct which has unquestionably brought ATHLETE’s character into disrepute;
(ii) ATHLETE acts in a manner that, in the reasonable opinion of SPONSOR, shocks or offends the community or which manifests contempt or disregard for diversity, public morals or decency;
(i) They need to ensure that all contractual provisions are as clear and precise as possible. If they do not understand the provision, they should insist on it being modified;
