- It's that time of year when student -athletes are preparing for back to school and also preparing for sporting activities they will take part in during the school year.
- As a student-athlete you will have many demands put on you and how you use your time.
- One of the major things for student-athletes is to balance academic life and sport life.
- Student-athletes have been known to be ruled ineligible to compete in their chosen field of sport because of low academic achievement or not having the required number of subjects. When this happens it can have a devastating effect on the individual.
A few tips to prevent such disappointment
Each person will have different reasons for not achieving the required level of academic achievement.
- Know the requirements of the school you attend for the level of academic achievement, along with attendance record.
- As soon as you realise you are not meeting the targets set by the school don't ignore the issues. Think of things you can do to correct what is happening.
- Time management is important therefore set priorities and stick to it.
- Stress management is important too. If you suffer from exam stress, workload stress, peer pressure etc. take some time out to do things that help you feel relaxed.
- Get support from appropriate people e.g. parents/guardians, tutors, your coach, guidance counsellor, life coach and even your peers who are doing well could help.
