“In retrospect, I now realize more than ever that sport is not only physical. There is a large psychological aspect of sport that tends to be either undernourished or completely ignored. This is a grave mistake. If we combine training of the psyche along with training of the body, the results will be phenomenal.

As an athlete you would very rarely find yourself in your chosen field without having a coach, a fitness trainer and a doctor on your team. Another person to have on your team would be a mental toughness coach. For some athletes however when they hear they could benefit from the services of a mental toughness coach there is a perception that if they need that type of help it suggests they are mentally ill. This is a misconception. It is also a misconception to think you just need to practice harder.
It is said sport is 90% mental, 10% physical therefore the majority of performing well is mental. For that reason you are not mentally ill when you use the services of a mental toughness coach. A mental toughness coach will help you use your mind to do all the different things your sport involves e.g. think strategically, keep physically fit, keep focused, correct technical errors, perform well in pressured situations and generally perform well consistently to achieve your desired results.
Cameron Jones realized his problem was psychological rather than physical or technical because he always trained hard and seldom missed practices. He always had bittersweet results because of nervousness in high pressure situations which almost always resulted in failure or disappointment because he was unable to deliver or perform well under these circumstances.
To help him get over his nervousness NLP techniques were used. Once the process was completed Jones saw him self being calm, relaxed, playing well and scoring goals. Now when he plays in high pressured situations he is more relaxed, focused and more in control, scoring more goals. He is even focused and playing well when practicing.
Other athletes I work with make corrections to their techniques too. They improve their performance and go onto win in their chosen field in sport.
